THE LIGHT WE HOLD

THE LIGHT WE HOLD

April 21, 2026

There are times in life when the world can feel overwhelming. The news can be heavy, uncertainty can weigh on our hearts, and it can be difficult to know how to stay hopeful.

In moments like these, it becomes especially important to tend the light within us. Not the forced glare of constant positivity, but the deeper light that comes from compassion, connection, creativity and meaning.

THE LIGHT WE HOLD is an 8-week Heart Art course designed as a space to pause, reflect and reconnect with what brings warmth and vitality to our lives.

Through poetry, story, reflective writing and intuitive art-making, we will explore how we keep our light alive - and how we support one another when that light fades.

Each session will offer a gentle combination of inspiration, creative exploration and shared reflection.

Themes we will look at include:

• finding light in difficult times

• the quiet strength in creativity

• walking by borrowed light

• basking in beauty and wonder

• nurturing gratitude and connection

• the difference one heart can make

No artistic skill is required. Heart Art is not about producing polished artwork, but about using creativity as a doorway into deeper awareness, expression and connection.

This course is an invitation to step away from the noise of the world for a few hours each week and reconnect with something steady and luminous within.

Because when we tend our own light, we strengthen the light in the world around us.

“This was a profoundly creative and meditative process for me. The tranquil art making was unequivocal because it was so spontaneous and freeing - being able to let go without judgement. This course has given me a fresh, updated self-view. Thank you for the beautiful poetry, stunning meditative music, reflective prose and writing but most of all the guided art that is so utterly engaging and healing. Deeply grateful.” Caroline

“This has been such a soulful delving, through art and words, and finding the unexpected hidden treasures! Quite incredible how it all works if one is open to the process! Thank you again and again Gail.” Barbi

“I'm always surprised at what 'pops up' for me from an art class with Gail. This was no exception. My heart softened into the deep and the art allowed my story to flow from it's well.” Catherine

“Each week begins with a beautiful reading - setting the tone for the session. Next, we learn an art-making process (don’t worry, it’s all really easy), and then settle into a deepening meditation followed by a little writing. Warrior, Healer, Visionary and Teacher - these archetypes described by Angeles Arrien have been our compass each week, guiding us to inner places for which there is no map.

My ‘art’ has sometimes been exhilarating and sometimes sluggish, but no matter the result, the process has allowed me to make meaning on aspects of my life to this point. Each week I have come home and shown my art to my family with joy and happiness. To them it may seem less than amazing, but to me I can hear my inner voice singing with the thrill of being given voice and light.

I have loved being part of this circle of meaning-making and art-making held so gently and beautifully by Gail.” Alison

WHAT IS HEART ART?

Heart Art is spontaneous “in the moment” creative expression. It tells you exactly what you need to know about yourself right now.

Heart Art is a non-judgemental approach to art-making where the creative process is the focus rather than the end product. There are no planned outcomes or expectations. You are encouraged to work spontaneously and to trust the creative process. You are invited to express yourself honestly and to honour all that is made with acceptance.

At the beginning of each session, you are introduced to a life-oriented theme and guided through an inspiration process (visualisation, meditation, story etc). This creates a focus for the art-making activity. These processes are designed to bypass the critical, controlling mind so that you are able to let go of fear and surrender to the moment.

The art-making involves mixed-media work using a wide variety of materials (clay, collage, painting, drawing, print-making etc). The approach is playful and experimental.

At the end of each session, there is time for reflecting on the creative process. This is an opportunity to explore meaning and make connections between art and life.
