SOUL PILGRIM

Hello and here we are, at the start of our pilgrimage! Below you’ll find links to the five Soul Pilgrim junctures. These junctures comprise of the following:

  • An introduction video
  • A list of art materials & an art demonstration video (masterly filmed by my husband Sean!)
  • Guided visualisation sound clip (headphones recommended)
  • Reflection writing sound clip (headphones recommended)

SOUL PILGRIM ROLL-OUT

Ideally time will allow you to follow the flow of one art process (juncture) a week, but should you fall behind at any stage, please don’t worry. Maybe you need more time to explore what comes up, maybe two weeks pass by before going to the next lesson. There is always room for flexibility.

ART MATERIALS

Click here for the Art Materials List. Page One gives you a birds-eye view of the recommended materials for each creative process. A detailed list of materials is on Page Two (the “Essentials”) and Page Three (the Extras). Click on the video below for more on art materials.

NOTE: Please give yourself creative license and flexibility here. If you do not wish to purchase art materials, use what you have at home: printing paper, makeup, fabrics, recyclable goods … beetroot and turmeric make great colours to paint with! i.e. adapt the materials to fit your means.

CREATIVE EXPECTATIONS

The aim of the creative process is to relinquish ALL expectation of what your art piece “should” look like. Let go of preciousness – allow yourself to be messy. You may end up creating abstract art – squiggles, lines, smudges, with no distinguishable features at all – all good. Take risks, be daring, let yourself sit in the space of discomfort as you create. Feel your feelings and allow your feelings to be expressed through the act of art making.

CREATIVE COMMITMENT

Commit yourself to this time. Be 100% present to meet yourself in the creative process.
Avoid distractions during your art-making. Make sure your cellphone is switched off and your family knows not to disturb you.

JUDGEMENTS

Judgement stifles creativity – try not to judge yourself during the creative process. Remember there is no right or wrong way to make art. There are also no mistakes in art. Every mistake is an opportunity to do something in a new way, different from anything you ever thought of before. Be open to all possibilities, have fun, play and enjoy yourself.

QUESTIONS

You may hit a road-block along the way, or need help with dealing with self-judgement. Perhaps you have a logistics question or something you need clarification on. Please contact me directly, via WhatsApp or email gail@gailschoeman.com

“We travel so far only to land where we are.
We imagine other lives, only to meet who we are.

Humbly, we can’t avoid this journey.”
