THE NATURE OF THINGS – a Heart Art course

“Hello, sun in my face. Hello, you who made the morning and spread it over the fields…Watch, now, how I start the day in happiness, in kindness.” Mary Oliver

Mary Oliver’s words make me want to be a better human. Someone who appreciates each day, someone with a keen eye on the miraculous, someone able to find peace in the chaos of things.

Okay sure, MO spent much of her time strolling through woods and drinking from ponds, but there is a simple yet imperative message here. In order to find calm, in order to feed our soul, in order to create balance and belonging, sooner or later, we must turn to Nature. As Mark Coleman said,

“Nothing supports the opening of the heart and mind like the beauty, tranquility, and silence of the natural world.”

In May I’ll be launching The Nature of Things: a seven-week Heart Art course on our inherent connection with the natural world. Through story, poetry, music, meditation and intuitive mixed-media art-making, we turn to nature for inspiration, support, grounding, and connection.

“There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature – the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after the winter.” Rachel Carson
